Wisdom Tooth—Do They Demand Your Attention!
Wisdom teeth play a crucial in human dentistry. Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that emerge during ones late teens or early twenties. It is a common case that half the time, wisdom teeth usually come out misaligned. These teeth can come out angled towards the other molars or away from them. They may even fail to fully emerge from the gum.
When wisdom teeth are angled towards other molars they tend to collect food. This collection of food makes it easy for teeth to harbour bacteria that will react with the food particles to release substances that will dissolve the enamel of teeth. Once the enamel of teeth is dissolved, the teeth are no longer protected and the bacteria will further infect the teeth and cause gum diseases. These gum diseases will cause swelling of the gums, lock jaws as well as tooth aches.
In the case of wisdom teeth that fail to fully emerge, the gums fail to completely cover the surface around the tooth and thus leave some parts exposed. These exposed parts of the gums will allow for direct entrance of bacteria into the gums. The result is gum diseases that will cause some serious discomfort and toothache.
Dentists therefore, recommend that once teens have begun to develop wisdom teeth they should go for dental checkups to see their alignment. If the wisdom teeth are incorrectly aligned, they can be extracted. Wisdom teeth extraction is the best way to avoid dental complications caused by misaligned wisdom teeth.
